Plot: David Basner (Tom Hanks) is a successful adman who is moving up the corporate ladder. Suddenly things change when his mother leaves his father (Jackie Gleason) after 30 years of marriage.
Twist: David’s situation becomes more complex because he has never been particularly close to his parents who are looking to him for help. On top of that he also begins a relationship with a co-worker during the start of a new ad campaign.
Memorable Line: “Is my nose bleeding? I just got tagged.”
My Thoughts: Tom Hanks basically plays the same character as he did when he was Josh Baskin in Big, except he has more game and gets far more action in this movie. As for Jackie Gleason, he plays the same character as he did in every other 80’s movie that he made. The ladies in the movie are hot in that eighties-ladies sort of way, which is to say they just need a new hairdo and some fashion tips for a complete transformation. Overall, the story is solid and so is the acting, but there’s nothing extraordinary about it.
Who Will Like This Movie: Anyone who loves Tom Hanks
Rating: 6 out of 10
