After looking through a friend’s DVD collection there were only two films that I hadn’t seen yet (out of about 60). I borrowed both of them so you can expect the other review fairly soon. Let me also note that I don’t consider mention of anything that happens in the first 30 minutes of a two hour movie to be a spoiler. If you disagree with that approach then you may want to skip over most of this review. Don’t worry though…it’s not like I’m telling you that Bruce Willis dies at the beginning.
Plot: The story is about a New England family whose son falls in love with an older woman. The mother is very concerned that the boy jeopardizing his future by falling in love with the woman and her kids. As the boy’s relationship becomes more involved his parents caution against getting involved with a woman whose is still trying to get out of a bad marriage.
Twist: When their son is killed in a scuffle with the woman’s (ex)-husband the couple struggles to deal with the terrible loss.
Memorable Quotes: Ruth [upon seeing Frank’s black eye]: So what are you going to do about it?
Frank: I don’t know…take karate.
My Thoughts: This movie was depressing and heartbreaking at times. The story moves pretty slowly and is very dark throughout. However, the actor’s performances give it an eerily realistic feel.
Who Will Like This Movie: Psychologists, philosophers, or anybody in the mood for a good dark movie.
Rating: 6 out of 10
