I remember thinking the preview looked pretty funny…just not funny enough to actually go see it in the theater.
Plot: Two hitmen are sent to Bruges to hide out after completing a difficult job in London.
Twist: The botched job in London creates a host of problems for everybody involved.
Memorable Quotes: One gay beer for my gay friend. One normal beer for me because I’m normal.
My Thoughts: This movie had a lot more to the story than I assumed it would. The dialogue and situations allowed for plenty of humor, but I found myself rewinding a lot to sort through the accents. The humor is pretty dark so only certain people will truly appreciate it and things certainly get messy at times. Nonetheless, I think this movie is worth a look…but probably best viewed as a group.
Who Will Like This Movie: People who like their comedy to come in a dark and twisted form.

Two movies in a single week?! It’s starting to feel like old times, but for how long. Anyway, Sarah and I decided to go catch this flick late on a Friday night.
Plot: After their vacation plans are foiled due to grounded flights, a couple (Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon) must attend four family christmases in a single day.
Twist: Let just say that these families are crazier than a Utah fan who feels the Utes are entitled to a BCS bowl game.
Memorable Quotes: My childhood was like the Shawshank Redemption…only without a nice, older, gentle black man to help me through it.
My Thoughts: This movie delivers everything you can expect from a holiday comedy flick. A funny plotline forcing people to be with their crazy families causing hilarity to ensure. It sounds familiar because it is…unfortunately there may never be another National Lampoon’s: Christmas Vacation.
Who Will Like This Movie: People who like to get into the the spirit of the season by watching Christmas movies and anyone who loves Vince Vaughn being Vince Vaughn.

Apparently I’m working at a bimonthly pace these days. Busy as usual but I finally found time to squeeze in a movie and felt like seeing a comedy. This seemed like the logical pick.
Plot: After a meltdown fueled by anger and energy drinks gets Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (Sean William Scott) into trouble with law, they are forced to perform community service in the Big Brother program at Sturdy Wings.
Twist: Danny and Wheeler find out that their little brothers are going to be two tough cases. One is a black boy with an attitude problem and the other is an older white boy who is into real life role playing games.
Memorable Quotes: Me and the judge have a special relationship. I don’t wanna get too graphic…but I used to suck his dick for drugs.
My Thoughts: I didn’t go into this movie expecting too much, but I thought it was really funny. There weren’t too many suprises, but the plot was interesting enough to keep things moving. A nice mix of sarcasm and slap stick. Great laughs…and that’s all I can ask from this type of movie.
Who Will Like This Movie: If you like Paul Rudd’s character in Knocked Up and Sean William Scott’s character in Road Trip then you’re probably going to like this movie.

Day four and movie number three. Pain medication level: high. Switched to Percocet in hopes of taming a raging flame in my throat.
Plot: This time the Gates boys find themselves trying to prove that ancestor was not involved in the plot to kill president Lincoln.
Twist: The group soon discovers that proving the existance of an ancient City of Gold is the only way to exonerate their relative.
Memorable Quotes: The last time I checked, we make out living off of crazy.
My Thoughts: As expected this sequel was not nearly as good as the original. The plot felt too forced the whole time and the surprises are few and far between from the first movie. The two good parts are Justin Bartha’s humor and Diane Kruger’s hotness.
Who Will Like This Movie: People who love mystery movies no matter how cheesy they are.
Rating: 5 out of 10

It was one of the funniest previews I had seen in a long time, so I was looking forward to it for a while.
Plot: The parents of two middle aged children still living at home get married and move in together.
Twist: The two step brothers unite in their joined hatred over another sibling.
Memorable Quotes: He better not get in my face…’cause I’ll drop that motherf*cker!
My Thoughts: As usual the preview outshined the movie for me. While there were plenty of new hilarious scenes the end result still wasn’t as good as I built it up to be. In the end it felt like they just took two guys that they knew were funny as a team and threw together a funny scenario without giving much additional effort to the plot.
Who Will Like This Movie: Huge fans of Will Ferrell or Talladega Nights.

After dinner Sarah and I decided to rent a movie so we stopped by the Redbox to pick one out. As this was my first Redbox experience I didn’t really realize that Saturday at 9:30pm would be such a terrible time to rent a movie. This was pretty much all that was left that I hadn’t seen.
Plot: Benjamin Finnegan (McConaughey) is searching for treasure and finds a big clue right before his boat sinks. He then convinces a rich millionaire, who his ex-wife Tess (Hudson) works for, to aid his continued search.
Twist: Finnegan must also avoid a well known rapper / thug whom he owes a large sum of money.
Memorable Quotes: Your uselessness is epic.
My Thoughts: This movie is just as terrible as I imagined it would be. It took every ounce of strength I had to not turn it off. I’m giving it a star because Kate Hudson looks great as usual. And I’ll throw in a second since Sarah seemed to think Matthew McConaughey was looking pretty good for the ladies.
Who Will Like This Movie: Anybody who doesn’t really care about the plot of the movies as long as the actors/actresses look good…like porn!

This was the second movie on the flight from NYC to Salt Lake City? Enough said I think.
Plot: Charlie Wilson was a senator during the Cold War with the Soviet Union. This movie tells the story of how he was able to covertly arm Afghans with weapons to defend themselves against Soviet control.
Twist: Stopping the invasion of Afghanistan would be a crippling blow to the Soviets, but Wilson must first overcome several personal and political obstacles to pull it off.
Memorable Quotes: You know you’ve hit rock bottom when you’re told you have character flaws by a man who hanged his predecessor in a military coup.
My Thoughts: This movie basically boils down to a very entertaining history lesson. Tom Hanks makes Charlie Wilson a very likeable man from Texas and Phillip Seymour Hoffman really sells his part as the loveable jerk. In the end you get almost exactly what you were led to expect…perhaps with a little less conclusion.
Who Will Like This Movie: Anybody who likes to get their history lessons in movie form.

What do you do when you are stuck on a flight from NYC to Salt Lake City? You pick two in-flight movies to watch that you wouldn’t normally rent of course. And this is the first one.
Plot: Jack Nicholson is a wealthy business man who ends up in one of his own hospitals being treated for cancer. His roommate is Morgan Freeman who plays a mechanic who is far more intelligent than one might imagine. The two soon become friends and start a “Bucket List” of all the things they would like to do before they die.
Twist: Not everyone agrees with the idea and the two men have differing ideas about the point of the list.
Memorable Quotes: Somewhere, some lucky guy is having a heart attack.
My Thoughts: This movie was pretty much exactly what I expected. We know both actors are very good, but it is even easier when they are pretty much playing themselves. The story doesn’t offer too many surprises, but is still heartwarming at times. Overall, it was solid and worth a look on a Sunday afternoon.
Who Will Like This Movie: Anyone who likes Nicholson or Freeman…or girls who enjoy a good cry. (Something tells me Mandy will dig it.)

Now that I’m back from my vacation in the Dominican Republic, I’m finally able to start watching some movies again. Since I was in withdrawls I thought I’d start by catching a new flick in the theater.
Plot: The story is just as the title would suggest. A man who gets dumped by his celebrity girlfriend retreats to Hawaii in an effort to forget about her.
Twist: As fate would have it the man’s ex-girlfriend is also on holiday at the same resort where he is vacationing. And she is with her new boyfriend. Hilarity ensues.
Memorable Quotes: When life gives you lemons, just say, “F*CK THE LEMONS!” and bail.
My Thoughts: This is another movie written by Jason Segel and it is every bit as good as his last box office film, Knocked Up. The film combines an entertaining story with a good mix of dark and slap stick humor. Although there was a lot of dudity, it was always for the sake of humor and balanced out by a very sexy Mila Kunis. Even my date agreed that she has never looked hotter then she does in this movie. Seeing them make fun of Horatio from CSI: Miami was just icing on the cake.
Who Will Like This Movie: Anyone who liked knocked up or every wanted to see a smarter version of Jackie from That 70’s Show.
Rating: 7 out of 10

I had already seen this movie several months ago, but I watched it again because it was coming on as I was sitting down to have a very high-class dinner. And by high-class I mean eating in my living room, sitting in my leather chair, and using the ottoman as my table. Bon appétit!
Plot: The story follows a lobbyist for “Big Tobacco” as his career begins to take off, despite the serious health risks associated with smoking.
Twist: As the man’s son begins to take an interest in his work, he finds himself in a moral dilemma.
Memorable Quotes: BR: We don’t sell Tic Tacs for Christ’s sake. We sell cigarettes. And they’re cool, available, and ADDICTIVE! The job is almost done for us!
My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this movie, especially since I’m a big fan of playing the devil’s advocate for the sake of argument. I think it was even better the second time around. I thought the writing was genius due to the cross of quick witted banter and methodical sarcasm. All in all, it was a good story with great dialogue.
Who Will Like This Movie: Anyone who likes to argue for no reason.
