Tonsils removed plus 3 days. Pain medication level: moderate.
Plot: After a disease spreads throughout the world, one man fights to stay alive and find a cure at ground zero.
Twist: The man must watch his every move since the city is full of blood thirsty hives of infected humans.
Memorable Quotes: God didn’t do this…we did!
My Thoughts: Despite big theatrics and fancy special effects I thought this movie wasn’t much more that a zombie movie in disguise. It reminded me a lot of 28 Days Later, except there were even fewer survivors in this plot. I did find the presentation of a deserted Manahattan to be visually stunning and thought provoking. Other than that it left a lot to be desired.

So it’s a little old and the title is a little long, but it’s Steven Spielberg and a lot of old people seemed to like it so I thought I would check it out.
Plot: The case you’ve been living in the dark ages this is a tale of alien encounters. Several different people are affected by their encounters and odd behavior ensues.
Twist: Many of the people who saw the aliens have an image that they can’t get out of their head. The image is the key to the contact with the aliens, but they must first determine what it is.
Memorable Quotes: Have you recently had a close encounter?
My Thoughts: I figure this was probably a pretty solid movie back in 1977. The special effects were probably state of the art back then and don’t really look all that bad by today’s standards. The story was a little flimsy, but I liked the idea of the image being stuck in people’s head that drew them to Devil’s Tower. As for the aliens, it would appear that the main alien is actually just Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Or maybe that’s where Tim Burton got the idea. Compared to the first guy the rest of the aliens just look like little kids. Anyway, it’s still entertaining for a Sci-fi flick from the 70’s.
Who Will Like This Movie: Old people and science-fiction lovers.

What do you do in Bozeman, Montana on a Monday afternoon after you’ve been snowboarding for three straight days? You go see a movie of course. Unfortunately, the theater options were very limited.
Plot: The story is about a boy named David Rice (Hayden Christensen), who discovers that he has the ability to teleport to anyplace that he has seen before.
Twist: David is not the only person in the world who can teleport. He quickly finds out that he is one of several “Jumpers” and is thrown into a war with people who have sworn to kill them.
Memorable Quotes: I like walking for a change. It makes me feel normal.
My Thoughts: This movie seemed like it spent the majority of the time setting up for a sequel (or more likely a trilogy). However, Rachel Bilson is extremely hot and I still like to daydream about what you could do if you could teleport yourself to anywhere. The combination of these last two things brought my rating up a full point, but it still isn’t worth going to the theater.
Who Will Like This Movie: People who frequently daydream about winning the lottery or anyone who hasn’t gotten over their Rachel Bilson jones from The O.C.

I decided to watch this movie because the first movie was pretty decent and Kate Beckinsale is really hot. If nothing else I figured it would be a good movie to watch with surround sound and the bass shakers on.
Plot: Take everything you thought you knew from the first movie and throw it out the window. The writers had to get creative in order for this movie to have any basis. You find out immediately that Viktor wasn’t the original vampire, but instead it was Marcus, the son of Alexander Corvinus, who was bitten by a bat to make the first vampire. You also learn that Alexander’s other son, William, was bitten by a wolf to make the first lycan. Selene, Kate Beckinsale, must team up with Scott Stapp of Creed, aka Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman), to stop Marcus from releasing his brother from his king tut’s tomb-like prison.
Twist: The whole movie is a twist from the first one so no real need to go into great explanation here.
Memorable Quote: Tanis: You don’t scare me, Selene.
Selene: We’ll have to work on that.
My Thoughts (Spoilers): As I expected this was a great movie as far as surround sound and bass shakers are concerned. Other than that is was pretty boring. However, I’m going to give it one extra point because Kate looks great in the sex scene even though she reveals nothing.
Who Will Like This Movie: People that really like to see blood spilled or love all vampire movies.

First of all, my roommate got me tickets to see a sneak preview of Cloverfield, so thanks for that “Kenga Genga”. As usual the theater was packed with douche nozzles and I still have no idea how they get tickets to these things. Anyway, I’ll try to write this up without spoiling anything for anybody…except for the ‘My Thoughts’ section of course.
Plot: The entire film is seen in a first person format through the eyes of a video camera. It begins at a going away party in Manhattan, but things change suddenly when the city begins to be destroyed by something that can’t be seen by the party-goers. The camera follows a group of friends as they try to escape Manhattan before it is destroyed.
Twist: The group learns, via cellphone, that a friend has been injured and is unable to move on her own. The group decides to attempt a rescue at the risk of their own peril.
Memorable Quote: “Rob, one of us is going to have to tackle you. And that’s going to be uncomfortable for everyone involved.”
My Thoughts (Spoilers): I thought that this movie was entertaining and visually stimulating. At several points in the movie, the first person perspective through eye of the camcorder left me wondering what was happening outside of the shot and I think that leaves a lot to the imagination. This is a definite bonus in this type of movie. Of course all good things must come to an end. Underneath it all this movie is really just a cross between Godzilla and The Blair Witch Project with a few twists. Considering all the secretive hype in the trailers I was really expecting a bit more.
Who Will Like This Movie: If you love Blair Witch, Sci-fi, or old Japanese movies this is the flick for you.
